On September 30th, 2017, the Saint Stephen’s latin club met in the Palm Courtyard at 6:00 AM to begin the long, four hour drive to their first competition of the year at Paxon High School.

About thirty students competed in the event. The many seventh graders and one eighth grader who attended were broken up into four novice certamen teams, which all competed in all three preliminary rounds, but didn’t make it to finals.

The two advanced teams, made up of students in tenth grade and above, tied for fourth place, both just missing making it to finals. The intermediate team, however, did make it to finals and finished in third place.

The intermediate team, made up of freshmen Tony Rappold, Annie Class, Kaylee Albrecht, and Emma Craig, prepares to play a round of certamen, a game that uses buzzers.

Overall, it was a successful first competition, and the Saint Stephen’s latin club will continue to work towards doing even better in the future.
