The Case for Coming to Beach Day: A Letter to the Editor.
By George Frano.
Beach day. Beach day is one of the best days of the year – a day for tug-o-war, spike ball, tanning, and fun– but its viability could be at risk.
If there is an increased number of students deciding to skip beach day, beach day may end up being taken away, like it was years ago. After Beach Day 2019, and its diminished attendance, one of the top events of the year was taken off the table for three years, only returning in 2023.
You heard that right: beach day was canceled for three years, and replaced by a school day.
The loss of Beach Day resulted due to a multitude of factors, one being students skipping. But keep in mind: Contrary to what many think, Beach Day is still a school day. Attendance is required. However, many take advantage of the fact that it’s at the beach to not show up.
This year there is a lot of talk amongst students on the topic about skipping, like it’s no big deal. But I warn you that this type of thinking could soon result in the same outcome that students saw in 2019: Everyone will lose Beach Day because some people decided to skip.
In all, as I always say “Don’t be that guy,” and come to Beach Day. See you tomorrow.
Sincerely,
George Frano
