On Monday, the boys varsity soccer team defeated BCS in a 5-0 victory, earning their 4th win of the year and continuing their undefeated run.

The Falcons (4-0-1) have defeated district foes BCS twice as well as ODA, and they’ve held 4A powerhouse Riverview to a 0-0 draw.

The team this year the team is led by its experienced defense, with senior defender Chris Pennewill and senior goalkeeper Trevor Mulqueen leading the way.  They’ve only one goal this year.

Having a lockdown defense to pair with pacey winger Ben Whorf and a prolific finisher in his younger brother Jacob Whorf is a nightmare for any team they play. The brothers clearly have chemistry, as they have combined for 11 goals this season.

Despite losing former captains Jonathan Boyd, and Alex Virgillio, the Falcon’s haven’t lost a step. Leadership roles have been filled by captains Trevor Mulqueen, Chris Pennewill, and Noah LaBelle. The goal scoring lead currently sits with Ben Whorf.

Senior Chris Pennewill said, “The team is more cohesive than ever. We play for each other, and we have fun every time we step on the field together. We are all friends outside of being teammates, so we play hard for each other. Nobody wants to let anybody down.”

Junior Noah LaBelle credits the hard preseason to the team’s early success: “We put in a lot of work, long practices, hard conditioning; it’s nice to see it paying off. It was brutal, but everybody was onboard, and we had clear goals before the season started to be State Champions, and we knew the only way to get that done would be to put in a lot of work,”

Midfielder Noah LaBelle, who the team calls “the surgeon” for his ability to thread the needle and find any player anywhere on the field, has contributed three goals this season.

It would be impossible to talk about the success of the soccer team without mentioning veteran coach Marc Jones. Mr. Jones has recently won his 368th game as a Falcon and currently holds a 44-game unbeaten district streak.

The Falcons will play their biggest game of the season at 7 pm on Thursday against ODA in a home game.
