Why Saint Stephen’s is a step above the rest

A look at the highlights of campus, academic, and athletic life at SSES.

Saint Stephen’s has a reputation. Other schools know SSES as the school with the smartest, strongest, and fastest kids around. Saint Stephen’s is a place where teachers with great reputations challenge students to go work harder then anyone else and express their academic skill like no others. Many people ask what makes Saint Stephen’s so special and why they should come to school here.  Here are a few of the highlights of SSES life that make it wonderful to be a Falcon.

To start with academics, Saint Stephen’s has a world-renowned educational system that pushes kids to their academic limit and lets them thrive much beyond high school. Firstly, 100% of Saint Stephen’s students graduate and attend a full four-year college or university.  This rate of college attendance is unprecedented and unheard of; hardly any schools in the country can say that about their students.

The average high school college attendance rate is 69.4 percent, which is very good, but falls short of Saint Stephen’s. Secondly, upper school Falcons are offered 18 Advanced Placement courses that are rated as college-level classes. And lastly, Saint Stephen’s has had 37 National Merit Scholarship finalists since 2005. For a school of under 300 students, that is extremely impressive.

Another factor of Saint Stephen’s that pushes us above and beyond other schools is our sports. Saint Stephen’s sports push the limits everyday and this has led to the outstanding performance’s of almost all our athletic teams.

Saint Stephen’s offers many sports; we have 53 teams that compete in 14 sports. The athletic teams have won 17 state championships, a very high number. The football team is undefeated this season.  Demonstrating their prowess and work ethic to the other schools, they are, on average, scoring 49 points and letting competing teams score only 8 points. Another statistic that makes us stand out from the crowd is that since 2000, Falcon teams have won 101 District and Regional titles

.

Additionally, Saint Stephen’s faculty are known for being the best around.  Every single teacher is world-class, and they work hard to help every student be successful. One teacher in particular, Mr. Patrick Whelan, is a world-renowned historian that has dedicated his time to teaching an A.P. World History class to 10th grade students.

Outside of school Mr. Whelan has traveled the world to give speeches, lessons, and meet knew people, all of which helps him bring new and interesting information to his class everyday.

All in all, Saint Stephen’s academics, sports, and teachers make us stand out.  The community makes students feel like they are a part of a tightly knit family.

Sophomore Jaclyn Schlossberg talked about her time at Saint Stephen’s saying, “I love the community that Saint Stephen’s brings everyday; all the teachers and faculty are awesome and bring a special feel to school.”
