This Thursday, in preparation for the upcoming Saint Stephen’s mock presidential election, a republican rally was held in the upper school commons. It was attended by democrats and republicans alike. Stephanie Castillo as the campaign manager, Kevin Zandomenego as Tim Kaine, and Matt Goeders as Donald Trump himself discussed their campaign’s stance on certain issues, such as immigration, abortion, global warming, and the infamous “wall” that “Mexico will pay for.” When they were done explaining their views, they allowed students from the crowd to ask questions.

Questions ranged from actual, legitimate questions to aggressive, accusatory queries meant to trip them up. They handled these questions in different ways, both asserting their views and averting questions they didn’t like. There were many different reactions to the rally; Trump supporters cheered, while others could be seen shaking their heads in disbelief. In total, it was a very divisive rally to reflect a very divisive election.
