The annual Research and Independent Study Exposition, aka “R.I.S.E.” will take place in the Upper School Sunshine Library this Wednesday, April 30, from 12:50 to 1:20 p.m.
RISE is an annual exhibition of work completed by students involved in independent research and studies. Including work from our Capstone Scholars, Ocean Academy, Visual Arts Conservatory, Independent Study Students, Tech Interns, and Global Scholars programs.
Participant from the Independent Study program, senior Ashley Black, is highly anticipating the event.
“While nervous, I’m excited to show everyone what I’ve been working on all year,” Black said. “I feel like there can be a misperception about the work we actually do in Independent Study so I’m happy I get a chance to show it off.”
Faculty across campus are just as eager to see what students have created, including Upper School Director of Curriculum and Research, Mrs. Christina, who directs the event.
“This is such an incredible opportunity for students to display all they’ve done and it’s honestly such a proud moment for me,” Pommer said. “The set up and prep can be really stressful but once it’s rolling, it can be so rewarding.”
The event, which is open to everyone, is an opportunity for students to present their year-long projects with peers, families, and teachers.
Many of these students will be participating in a poster session for interested attendees to talk with them about their work.
There will be a follow up poster session for the 6th graders from 9:40-10:10am on Thursday, May 1st.
If you aren’t free during the poster sessions, bring your phone and headphones to the library any time before the end of the year. Students have been recording short teasers that talk about their research and why they love their topics. Scan to listen.
The event will run in the Upper School Sunshine Library this Wednesday from 12:50pm to 1:20pm.
