Fiery dodgeball tournament comes to campus January 26

A new StuCo fundraising event is coming late this month, and it might be the best one since Homecoming week.

“To play this game you have to master the five D’s of dodgeball. Dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.” These are the famous words of dodgeball legend Patches O’Houlihan from the 2004 major film Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.

Maybe you can be the next underdog.

On Saturday, January 26th, Student Council will host the first official “Saint Stephen’s Dodgeball Tournament” at 1:00 in the Hoagland Arena.  Student, teacher, and parent teams will battle it out for the title.

If you and your team of seven feel up to the task, your squad will compete in a single elimination, bracket-style tournament to determine the greatest dodgeball team on campus.

To enter, teams of seven must fork out $50 dollars (due by Monday January 21st) to Student Council.  Proceeds go to the Busch Gardens trip at the end of the year.  At $50 per team of seven, that’s a measly $7.14 per player to take place in a full afternoon of dodgeball rowdiness, fun with friends, and earnest competition.

One team captain will be in charge of wrangling team members, coming up with a fun team name, and finding uniforms (uni’s can be anything from custom uniforms to just matching t-shirts).

The winners of the tournament will be awarded with a cash or gift card prize.

Finally, if you need some extra practice, have your team captain throw wrenches at the rest of the team, because if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
