What’s with all the rocks?

Recently, little painted rocks with cute words and phrases have begun popping up around campus. Turns out, the rocks are part of a program designed to spread kindness.

As you stroll through campus, from The Upper School all the way to the gym, you’re bound to spot a few of colorful, painted stones hidden in clever places around the grounds.  These stones are causing quite a stir of mystery.

The rocks (some featuring little phrases like “Happy” and “Be yourself”) are not out there by some miraculous accident.  They’re the result of a new initiative that’s coming to schools nationwide with the goal of spreading kindness.

The tiny, painted stones are meant to bring warmth to your day.

4th Grade teacher, Mrs. Sinphay, told The Gauntlet that the rocks are part of “a national movement called ‘The Kindness Rocks Project.’ If you, or a family member or friends have found little painted rocks with kind, inspiring words or messages during your walks in parks, in shopping plazas, at the beach, or during your travels, then you know what I am talking about.”

The short video above explains what the program is and how began.  Many of the Lower School and Intermediate School teachers are having their students take part.

According to Sinphay, it “sometimes just takes a small gesture, a smile, or a kind word to make all the difference in someone’s day.”

Thus, the rocks.

So as you see the stones this week, spread the kindness.

Mrs. Sinphay said the “students are welcome to keep them, share them with others, [or] place them in new spots around campus or in their own neighborhoods or communities.”
