Eleven students attended the FAU college visit on Monday, the first one of the year.

Every year, the Saint Stephen’s college counseling staff, comprised of Mrs. Schumann, Mrs. Moss, and Mrs. Diamond, welcomes a series of college representatives to the campus to give students an opportunity to learn more about each school. It is a great chance – especially for juniors and seniors – to familiarize themselves with a college they are thinking about.

Yesterday, a representative from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) started off the year with the first college visit, which eleven students attended.  FAU’s main campus is in Boca Raton, Florida.

Visits normally entail brochures of the college and information sessions. Students can come prepared with notes or questions. The meetings usually take place in the conference room within the college counseling office.

Generally speaking, visits take place during class. Students are allowed to miss class for a meeting if its for a school that is truly in your interest. Teachers understand that is important for a student to see a glimpse of the college they are planning on applying to.

The college counseling office requests that students sign up for meetings through Naviance. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Naviance (hopefully you’re not a Senior) it is the program that Saint Stephen’s uses for most of the college application process.

To sign up for a meeting, go to the “Resource Board” on SSESOnline. Then choose “Upper School”, then “Naviance for Students”. Log in, then go to the colleges home page and scroll to the end to find the several meetings you can sign up for.

Upcoming meetings include: Babson College and Sewanee on September 4, Hostra of September 6, Bucknell University on September 7.
