PDQ vs. Chick-fil-A…That is the question

Which is truly better, and why? Samson Yang gives the background of the ongoing debate.

Samson Yang, Columnist

When craving some good fried chicken, people often debate whether or not they should go to either Chick-fil-A or PDQ. While both specialize in fried chicken, the decision is usually difficult to make for some of their costumers.

Wrapping your head around this debate is where I come in. Hopefully, after this article, you’ll know which joint to choose when it comes to decision time.

The iconic Chick-fil-A has been around for over 50 years. PDQ on the others hand has only been around for seven. PDQ has brought their own modern twist of fried chicken to counter Chick-fil-A’s classic fried chicken options.

With unique sauces and special sandwiches and salads, PDQ has challenged Chick-fil-A for title of “best fried chicken”.

At Saint Stephen’s we offer Chick-fil-A has a lunch option every Tuesday and Thursday, but some students still like PDQ better. I’ll analyze both fried chicken chains below.

Which brand is the best? Read on to see.

OVERVIEW

For me, the biggest difference between PDQ and Chick-fil-A is that PDQ offers more of a gourmet fried chicken service. Chick-fil-A is tends to me more of a fast food, a basic fried chicken spot.

When going to PDQ, I expect something more than a basic fried chicken sandwich with some complementary pickles. For example I recently ordered a grilled pineapple chicken sandwich at PDQ, something Chick-fil-A does not offer.

SERVICE

When asking other students, a huge comparative advantage that Chick-fil-A has over PDQ is service. Chick-fil-A is the quickest fried chicken service: it’ll get you your meal to you in a matter of minutes after you place your order.

And when your drink is was empty, there is always the super kind worker there to refill your drink.

LOCATION

Generally, the students who live near Saint Stephen’s usually tend to go to Chick-fil-A just because it is closer and more convenient. PDQ on the other hand is on state road 70, which for most students is out of their way.

CONCLUSION

While considering the advantages of both Chick-fil-A and PDQ, the clear winner is subjective to what you personally feel. For me, Chick-fil-A is always quick and easy so that may be why I go there more frequently than PDQ but whenever I am close to PDQ, I will for sure go there over Chick-fil-A. The fried chicken wars are a wrap, I personally declare PDQ the winner.
