Last week, from Wednesday until Saturday, February 24th, a group of Saint Stephen’s students participated in the Harvard Model Congress (HMC) conference in Boston.

Catherine Van Keuren, a sophomore who attended the conference, wrote a short summary of the experience:

”This past weekend, the Harvard Model Congress team traveled to Boston and competed against 1,500 other students across the US. There, they each represented a senator, representative, or other type of member of Congress. They debated, wrote bills, and bonded with other delegates.

Shannon Mallard, the team captain, led them to victory with six of the team members receiving awards (these are hard to come by!).

Shannon, Janie Chatham, Baera Bischoff, and Sydney Knowles all received best delegate awards and their own gavels for their committees, which was the top award given out at the conference.

Matthew Kinkead and Nick Klein both also received honorable mentions for their effort in their committees. Overall, the HMC team had an amazing time in Boston filled with lots of fun and great food.”

It seems that the conference was a great experience for the students who attended as well as a chance for them to show off their skills.
