This week, a select group of Saint Stephen’s students are in New York City at the Columbia Model United Nations Conference (CMUNCE).  It takes place over three days at the Columbia University.

During the esteemed conference, which is held in Columbia’s actual classrooms, students participate in “simulations” from historical events and crises.  The participants play “roles” during the simulated crises (think FDR and his cabinet members in a WWII simulation) and try to “pass laws” and “solve diplomatic problems” in order to earn distinctions, which are awarded by the proctors in the end.

The conference can be challenging, but it is very engaging and a lot of fun, according to past participants.

To participate, students “try out” in the beginning of the year.  You must be sound at problem solving, communication, and creative thinking to earn a spot. See Mrs. Murphy for details.
