After starting off the season strong with a 9-3 record the Falcon’s volleyball team has one goal in mind: To win a district title. Since 2012, Saint Stephen’s women’s volleyball has not won a single district title. Head Coach Frank Casaine has ambitions for the volleyball team this year.
“I want to win districts.” Coach Casaine said. “I want the team to really come together and learn to play synchronized and aggressive so that we can overcome winning district finals.”
Last year the Lady Falcons won district-semi finals for the first time in years. The feeling of passing this accomplishment has been a huge boost for the team so far this year.
Sophia Ierulli, captain of the team, mentioned how their community launched them to embrace each other and achieve high standards.
“We try to just get to know each other outside of volleyball, we want for that bond to show up on the court when we play.” Ierulli said.
Coming into a new year, the Lady Falcons have a more challenging schedule. However, they have continued winning ways, earning victories in nine out of the first twelve games.
Another player on the team, Ava Varga, mentioned her experience improving along with the team, even through tough battles during games, especially their second public school game of the season.
“In the game against Parrish, we figured out the mistakes we need to work on, and we need to dedicate ourselves,” Varga said.
The girls next match is at home, Sept. 16, against Manatee High School.
