Hoco Week is students’ favorite—and most stressful—time of the year.
The Homecoming Dance, the final event of Spirit Week, will take place Saturday, Sept. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dr. Janet S. Pullen S.T.E.A.M. Center.
Attendees are expected to stay until the conclusion of the dance, and tickets will be on sale through lunch on Friday. The event will feature an emcee-style DJ, a photobooth, light refreshments, and small snacks.
According to the sophomore class officers, the hosts of the event, the move to the Pullen Center was made to add a “modern and exciting backdrop” to a dance that needed the upgrade. And the students agree;
“I think it’ll definitely be interesting and new,” said senior Angelique Londeree. “I’m excited to see how it’ll turn out.”
Further, the sophomores said that one thing that will make Saturday memorable

is the DJ. The officers sought out an “emcee-style” DJ who would operate as a master of ceremonies, as opposed to just a DJ who hits play.
Londeree said, “I’m excited to see how it’ll be… I think it’ll be new and hopefully fun.”
A great deal of work goes into organizing a school dance, and the class of 2028 has put in months of preparation, planning, and creativity that the officers hope will make the night perfect.
The dance theme is Mamma Mia, chosen partly because of the early date this year. Class President Annette Logan said the selection was to “hold on to the summer vibe” and bring a “fun and colorful theme.”
“Everyone is coming off of summer,” Logan said. “So let’s go with something light and fun—Mamma Mia.”
Stress has been heightened this year due to the early date of the dance. The sophomores found themselves in a time crunch, especially after last year, when the event was pushed back two weeks due to hurricanes. However, the sophomores have persevered.
“When it comes to things like this, you kinda just have to dive off the deep end,” Logan said. “You just have to figure it out.”
