On Aug. 14, the Dr. Janet S. Pullen S.T.E.A.M Center officially celebrated its grand opening. The event was dubbed a “ribbon cutting ceremony,” and featured live music from Saint Stephen’s students, and speeches from Mr. Kraft and Dr. Pullen, among others. The celebration also hosted long-time families, donors, and friends of the school.
After years of planning, the ribbon-cutting marks the start of a new era for students, faculty, and families.
Head of School Mr. Peter Kraft expressed gratitude for the community’s long-time dedication to making the center a reality.
“We’re literally living the legacy of all the people who came before,” Kraft said. “The vision is that every kid in the school gets a chance to use it.”
According to Annual Fund Director Mrs. Bianca Lawrence, the process of building the S.T.E.A.M center wasn’t always easy, as the dream took years to come to fruition.
“This is an absolute dream come true.” Lawrence said. “It’s been 10 years in the making and I’m so proud to be standing here tonight and finally be able to share it with our donors and families.”
The Pullen Center, as some are calling it, is slated to be a multi-use facility for all programs at Saint Stephen’s. From plays to concerts, dances to galas, engineering to journalism, the space was designed to host a variety of events.
For Mr. Steve Horn, parent of freshman Charlie Horn, the S.T.E.A.M Center will provide a place for parents to get a closer look at what their kids are doing at school.
“I’m excited that the kids, and especially the parents, will have a place to come and sit comfortably, to watch all of the kids do really cool stuff that they love to do.”
