Beach Day is set for Thursday April 17. The tradition is a staple of Saint Stephen’s events and activities. Shortly after the first bell, students will board buses headed toward Holmes Beach for a day of competitions, cold plunges in the ocean, and tanning (often ending in a dreaded sunburn).
Thursday, students should arrive with all their beach belongings: towel, sunscreen, water bottle, and any other personal items they might want for five hours on the beach. Then students take the buses to Anna Maria Island, where the activities begin immediately.
Spirit competitions this year include tug-of-war, relay race, and volleyball. Watermelon and pizza are on the menu for lunch, before packing up and heading back to school around 1pm, when students are permitted early dismissal or a study hall until the final bell.
Student Council publicist George Frano provided some details on the new StuCo event: volleyball.
“This year we’re doing something new,” Frano said. “We’re bringing in a volleyball tournament.
The volleyball tournament will have an small entry fee for teams of six, and will not be worth spirit points.
Frano recounted some of the must-haves for students looking to make the most out of their beach experience.
“I would definitely say sunscreen for most people because there’s always a lot of burns,” Frano said. “Bring your own towel and bring a water bottle, we’ll provide the snacks.”
