Boys varsity soccer

Boys Soccer:

It’s that time of the year again: winter sports are underway and practices have been held for about three weeks now.

Last year, the team graduated five seniors: Alex Rodriguez, Noah Labelle, Max Damm, Ben Tobio, and Andy Sevilla.

Despite the loss, the boys outlook for the season is strong.

“We have a lot of young talent,” says varsity assistant coach Blake Hoonhout. “Our depth is much greater this year. Our first fifteen guys will have to battle for positions, which is totally a good thing.”

The captains this year, seniors Jacob Whorf and RG Sherrill, are optimistic and excited for the season.

Sherrill, who has been practicing with the team, reported, “We don’t have a lot of big guys this season, but the people we have are skilled with the ball. We will have to be a team that focuses on letting the ball do the work, playing technically by linking via passing the ball.”  Sherrill continued, “I see a lot of potential with the skill we have. I look forward to a solid season.”

The boys varsity team has a tough schedule this season, playing some of the best teams in the state to prepare for the postseason.

Sherrill said, “I know we have a tough schedule, but it excites me. It does us no good to play teams that we can kill. By playing in tough matches, we will be better suited to perform when it matters in the playoffs.”
