Veterans day is a day about all the people who have served, whether they did or didn’t make it back from their tours of duty”

— Mr. Lindsay

On November 11th, 1918, Armistice Day was celebrated, recognizing the end of World War I.

On November 11th, 1954, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day, and it is now recognized as a day to honor all soldiers who have fought in all wars.

Saint Stephen’s has several staff and faculty members who’ve served our country. Mr. Lindsay (Director of Technology), Mr. Erby (Middle School Director), Mr. Paoletti (Athletic Director), and Mr. Jensen (Director of Admissions), are all veterans that we have to thank for protecting our country.

The Gauntlet asked Mr. Lindsay and Mr. Erby to describe what Veterans day meant to them.

Mr. Lindsay said, “Veterans day is a day about all the people who have served, whether they did or didn’t make it back from their tours of duty.”  Lindsay, whose father and two brothers were in the service, continued, “It’s a very patriotic event for me because I was in the Air Force for seven years.  It’s just a time when we reflect on our veterans and all that they have done for our country.”

Mr. Erby, Middle School Director, also served the armed forces.

“I think it has more value now… My grandfather was in the Korean War and my dad was in Vietnam, but for me I think it’s just understanding the commitment and sacrifice that you sign up for.” Erby explaining his thoughts on Veterans Day.
