The Saint Stephen’s Latin Club team placed second overall at their Regional competition this past weekend, and they also celebrated several individual victories. Their Certamen team of 16 was defeated only by a team of over 100 students.

Sophomore Ashley Peterson said she was excited about how well they did, especially considering the size of their team.

“We really held our own. I think it was really important for our school to be able to show how dedicated we are,” she said.

Sophomore Tiag Bhamber agreed.

“We could have easily gotten first if we had more people,” he said.

Peterson said the next step is the State competition.

“We get to send our Certamen team to state because we won in every round of Certamen, and most of us will probably go for tests, too,” she said.

Upper School Latin teacher Mr. Geoff Revard said the reason the team does so well is because they are just that: a team.

“I think it’s because they work so hard, and they work well with each other, too,” he said.

Bhamber gave the school credit for their success.

“It’s because we’re from Saint Stephen’s. The Falcons know their Latin,” he said.
